Liquid Level Indicator Using ULN2003
PCBway: only $5 for 10 pcbs from www.pcbway.com/?from=CZcouple
A water level indicator detects and indicates the level of water in an overhead tank and relays the information back to a control panel to indicate whether the tank has a high or low water level.
In this tutorial, I am going to use the ULN2003 IC to create a simple, inexpensive water level indicator.
Using this circuit you can easily control the wastage of water and electricity.
Watch this video, for detailed step by step instructions on how to build this circuit and to know how this circuit works. Towards the end of the video I will also discuss whether its really worth building this circuit.

    I got lost a bit. What is the transistor for? If I understood correctly the transistor was only used to make the light blink on its own? I understand the importance of the diode. For my project I was thinking of connecting one side of the coil to 5vGND the other side the coil to a 3.3v pin (esp8266) with the diode in between. That way when pin goes high, it would power up the coil, when pin goes low it powers off the coil. What would my way of doing it not work, or be wrong? Edit: So I did see video again, and noticed relay goes on and off because of the code you put in. I've seen a couple of short videos, like this one ruclips.net/video/19UNeUmvOW4/видео.html that connect power straight to the coil pins.

    • @CancunManny
      @CancunManny 4 дня назад

      So I think I figured it out, but would like someone to confirm. For the coil to work it needs 5v, the adruino and esp8266 (which I am using) only have 3.3v as output. That is why we use the transistor which acts like a relay. With 3.3v the transistor "connects", providing 5v to the relay coils when then power on the NO side of the relay. Do I understand it correctly now?

    I think the ULN is a good choice due to it being a darlington array since a darlington has a very high gain and thus requires a small amount of current to turn on. I wonder if it would work with distilled water.

    Hello, I appreciate your video; it was very useful. I also have a question about the sensor's sensing angle. I read that this sensor doesn't have a blind spot, but I want to reduce the sensing angle. I don't need it to sense 360 degrees, just between 100 to 180 degrees. Is it possible to reduce the sensing angle of the RCWL-0516 sensor? Alternatively, can you suggest some common materials that absorb microwaves and don't affect the waves? thank you

    hi, friend. I was experimenting with this sensor and came to the conclusion that it is not useful for alarms. It is very sensitive and is triggered by the slightest movement of a branch. Furthermore, it is impossible to direct the detection beam. Lightning cannot be channeled with either aluminum foil or 2 cm thick iron. Any comment from you would be very helpful. greetings.

    Great interface devices. But beware, don't go overboard...the total emitter current for the entire package is 2.5 amps...(according to the spec sheet) or .35 A/driver; and the total package is thermal limited with a maximum Tj of 125C and 67 degC per watt Tja. So, the maximum package power dissipation is 1.5 watts, meaning each output can be loaded with a 175 ma continuous load. (Pdip in free air)

    This chip is easily the most underrated chip around people always bang on about the 555 but it is rubbish. As engineer I never ever used 555 for anything as there are so many other ways to do what a 555 does with less parts, however the uln2003 is just excellent drive straight out from a micro no need for anything extra, drive relay coils or higher voltages ...it is just a brilliant chip.

    The downside to darlington drivers is the voltage-drop across the device (1.3V in the datasheet) will cause extra power dissipation in the driver IC, so be sure to calculate the temperature rise from the thermal impedance info. NMOS devices with low Rds(on) are very common and inexpensive, and can drive a variety of loads, from milliamps to over 100amps with less voltage-drop/higher efficiency. The drawback to NMOS, though, is that some devices need a bit more voltage to turn them on, but that's easy enough to do with a level-shifter IC.

      I have never had to worry about the voltage drop, and if you do then you should be using a different chip or MOSFET , the chip is really for driving relay coils or up to 50v switching but you are not going to be driving 500mA x 1.3v IE 0.65 watts per channel. If you did you be mad.
